My name is Will Arnzen, owner operator and licensed tile & stone contractor specializing in the installation of Radiant Heating Tile Floor Systems servicing San Diego areas Radiant Heating for natural stone tile & masonry flooring has been around since the Romans, and Frank Lloyd Wright began implementing radiant heated floors into his homes in the 1930's. Hydronic & Electrical heated natural stone countertops & tile floors are a lot easier to install and much more efficient than in older times making them affordable & practical for eliminating the cool feel of tile flooring in the cooler morning & evening hours. Instead making for a warm & comfortable feel for your tile floors. Some radiant heat manufacturing companies can warm the surface of the tiles up to 104 degrees. And the tile surface usually warms up 2-3 degrees per ten minutes. The heating mat & cables are embedded in the mortar underneath the tile floor and are invisible. The only visible aspect of the whole radiant floor heating system is the programmable thermostat which is easily moved to a convenient location. You can preset the times which you would like the heating cables to be in operation as well as selecting the consistent temperature that you would like the cables operating at. The heating cables and mats embedd in the mortar underneath the tile floor heat up the tiles for a heated thermal mass that transfers the heat to the surface of the tile in contact with your bare feet. Marble tile, limestone, & granite are very good at storing & transfering heat evenly throughout the floor.
Popular areas for electric & hydronic radiant heated tile floor installations are bathroom entry & kitchen areas as well as using marble tiles, limestone, granite, & travertine tile for the finish floor surface. Travertine tile might not be the most optimal choice for radiant heating floors because of the holes in the tile which are filled for the top of the tile surface but are unfilled throughout the rest of the tile. It is also a good idea to have the same contractor installing the radiant heated mats & cables as well as the tile installation because if the special tools & procedures that are required for installing radiant heated tile flooring are not used then the whole heating system can be comprimised & ruined which is the last thing that you want to have happen after installing a new tile floor. And we do repairs of radiant heat floor where part of the floor or all of the floor is not heating up and removing and replacing tiles. We also handle the electrical hook up to the existing electric wiring & the thermostat. And it is a good idea to install an insulation layer over concrect subfloors to make sure the tiles heat up as quickly & as warm as possible.
